Other noteworthy moments from the Expo included, Waste Pro General Counsel, Jeanie Dubinski being recognized as the incoming President of the EIA Women’s Council, which is an organization that fosters the professional development of women in the waste industry.  Waste Pro’s Official Mascot Waste Pro Man was also on hand showing off the new Compressed Natural Gas trucks on display at the Expo.  Additionally, Waste Pro was presented with a custom spray painted truck and painting by Wayne Engineering, which were created by Iowa artist, Paco Rosic.

COLUMBUS, MS May 8^th, 2012 -  On May 4^th, roll off driver for Mississippi Industrial Waste, a Waste Pro Company, Gevauhn Johnson received a Franklin Award (a crisp $100 dollar bill) for going above and beyond his job requirements.  Gevauhn assisted a commercial customer with their dumpster that had been filled beyond capacity.  Not only did Gevauhn remove the excess garbage surrounding the dumpster, along with emptying the dumpster, but he did it with a smile and a positive attitude.  For his dedication to customer service, Division Manager, Phillip Crossly gave Gevauhn a Franklin Award.  The Franklin Award was created by Waste Pro President and CEO, John Jennings, and is an impromptu gift, in recognition of an employee’s exceptional work ethic and attitude.

The following email was sent to the local office, prompting this award:

The purpose of this email is to commend Gevauhn for his exemplary job this morning at the Palmer Home Thrift Store in Starkville.  When we arrived at work our dumpster had been overloaded with bins and bags of trash.  This trash was brought after we closed for business yesterday.  There were also boxes, bins and bags of garbage beside the dumpster.  When Gevauhn arrived I asked him if I needed to get some of the garbage off of the top of the dumpster.  He said that he would be glad to do it for us.  He climbed on the side of the dumpster and removed the bins and bags of garbage.  There was even some used cat litter mixed in with the garbage.  He removed enough of the garbage so that his net would go over the top of it.  I realize that is not in his job description.  It is really our responsibility to remove the excess garbage from the top.  Please express to him our appreciation for doing this for us.  We realize that he went way above the responsibilities of his job.  We wanted to let you know what an outstanding employee you have in Gevauhn.

GAINESVILLE, FL – April 10, 2012 Bob Cramer, a Waste Pro garbage truck driver, picked up a $10,000 Safety Award for flawless performance over the last three years. Bob was presented a $10,000 check at the March 23rd, 2012 ceremony held at Waste Pro’s regional facility in Gainesville. The check was presented to Bob by Waste Pro Regional Vice President, Ralph Mills.

Also in attendance at the presentation, were City of Newberry Commissioner, Alena Lawson; City of Gainesville Commissioner, Randy Wells; Hawthorne Mayor, Matt Surrency; and Alachua Mayor, Gib Coerper.

In order to receive the Safety Award, employees must have a spotless work record three years, excellent customer service, no accidents, no injuries, and no property damage, along with a well-kept truck and a positive attitude.

Mills stated, “We care deeply about our employees, customers and communities we serve. AUGUSTA, GA  March 22, 2012—In a ceremony held on Tuesday, March 20th, Waste Pro donated 20 laptop computers and two digital cameras to the Fisher House at Fort Gordon. The event was held at the EAMC Fisher House located at Building 280, Fisher House Road in Fort Gordon, GA.

Waste Pro President and CEO John J. Jennings personally made the donations to representatives of the Fisher House, Toby Rose, the Associate Director, and Anne Arnold, the Manager.

As part of Waste Pro’s commitment to caring for the communities they serve, the PC’s for Wounded Veterans
program was created to provide wounded members of the military and their support programs with new computers. Waste Pro is one of this country’s fastest growing solid waste collection, recycling, processing and disposal companies.

The Fisher House program was started by Zachary Fisher in 1990, when it became apparent that many families had difficulty obtaining lodging near their recovering soldiers. These multi-family homes are built by the Fisher House Foundation, Inc. and are given as gifts to the Military Services and Veterans Affairs divisions. They are available for use by families of in- patient soldiers.

With a total of 43 Houses, across the country, the new Fisher House at Fort Gordon was unveiled in October of last year. It includes seven family suites, laundry and kitchen facilities, in addition to a library.

Waste Pro’s PC’s for Wounded Veterans program began in 2008 and has made laptop donations to military facilities in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia.

The computers are often used to communicate with loved ones during recovery, for education enhancement, professional development, and to research current events. The program is funded through regular donations by Waste Pro employees.

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude and admiration for City of Atlanta Sanitation Supervisor, Robert Whitehead and the crew at the Waste Pro American Recycling facility in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Whitehead went above and beyond the call of duty yesterday, February 27, 2012 to help me find my keys in a truckload of recycling.

When heading out of my house to walk my dog in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, I inadvertently dropped my keys in our curbside recycling bin as I deposited a few more recyclable items in the bin. An hour later when I returned home I realized I didn’t have my keys. I retraced my steps but didn’t find the keys. I suddenly realized they may have dropped into the bin and the recycling truck had already picked up my recycling. My key chain had both of my house keys and three “smart” car keys which are quite expensive. I have four children in two separate schools in Atlanta and now had no way to pick them up. In addition, my husband was on a plane to LA at that moment for a business trip with all the extra keys.

I contacted the City of Atlanta and a very kind and considerate customer service representative connected me with Sanitation Supervisor, Robert Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead met me at my home and offered to do whatever he could to help me. He arranged for us to meet the recycling truck at the end of its route at the recycling plant. A dear friend drove me out to the facility where Mr. Whitehead was waiting for us. He remained with us until the truck arrived doing all that he could to expedite the process. Mr. Whitehead consulted with the Waste Pro USA team and they arranged to have the truck dump its contents in a separate warehouse bay. The truck arrived around 3:30pm and I have to admit I was in shock at the huge pile of recycling.

Mr. Whitehead and the Waste Pro USA crew of Brian McMichen, Brad Cannon and Justin were calm and professional. They thoughtfully determined the best way to tackle the mountain of recycling and then they began digging. They helped identify where my personal recycling items were in that huge pile by finding my address on magazines. As it got later and although I was praying the entire time, I began to think we would never find the keys. I felt terrible that these nice men were doing this for me. The men remained upbeat and committed. While searching, Mr. Whitehead got a call and had to leave to take care of other business. I thanked him profusely for all that he had done for me and, amazingly, he actually seemed reluctant to leave. He was so committed to helping me, I know he wanted to stay and find the keys.

I almost called off the search, but everyone kept working. We located another spot of items from my home. Two hours after we started, Justin bent down, then stood up and calmly said, “Here they are.” Needless to say, I was jumping up and down hysterically. When I commented that I had been about to give up because it was getting late, the Waste Pro USA crew said they had already been discussing what they would do the next day if we didn’t find the keys that evening. I was amazed that anyone would be so committed to helping me when faced with that daunting task.

Today, as I write this I am overcome with gratitude and awe that these men did what they did for me. These men were more than kind. They truly cared about my situation and they were positive and professional throughout the search. You are blessed to have a supervisor like Robert Whitehead working for you, and the city of Atlanta is fortunate to have Waste Pro USA American Recycling handling our recycling program.
